Book # 50

50) McGrath, Patrick. SPIDER. Poseidon Press: 1990.

Novel from the library; a look at the tangled complexities of psychotic illness from the point of view of a sympathetic but obviously disturbed character.

I'd known of (but haven't seen) the 2002 film version--directed by David Cronenberg and starring Ralph Fiennes. While reading, I could just see the actor in the role of Spider Cleg. Will have to rent it sometime.

Book #51

51)Greenfield-Sanders, Timothy. XXX 30 PORN-STAR PORTRAITS. Bullfinch Press: 2004.

A friend recently lent me the documentary DVD, THINKING XXX, about this photography exhibit/project. I remembered browsing the book a while back at Books-A-Million, and after watching the art interesting film, I ran over to purchase a copy. Besides the photos themselves, 30 dyptich portraits--of the featured adult entertainment actors both nude and clothed--the book also prints a number of socio-cultural essays about porn, by the literary likes of Gore Vidal, Nancy Friday, Whitley Strieber, etc.

I wussed out though and did not stop at Blockbuster to see if they had any of Nina Hartley's videos to rent...
