Sn 3 walk total= 42.2 miles
I am not sure about GU. I like the energy boost it gives, but I could barely choke down the last packet (at about 4 hours) and then was nauseous finishing and for a while after the race. I'm thinking I might be better off alternating between Gu and slightly more solid food, energy/protein bars and such, especially in the longer miles of the upcoming ultras. I've also seen folks suggest ginger candies (for carbs and stomach settling)--that sounds good to me!
Ditz. So, I figured I'd wear the compression sleeve for my thigh over my tights, thinking it'd be easier to adjust that way. Wrong, it kept sliding down over the fabric! I put up with it slipping for about the first 10 miles or so; having to repeatedly slow down or stop to tug the sleeve back up in place. Then I lost a bit of clocktime making a pit stop to take off my tights, put the sleeve against my skin, get back into clothes and shoe and get on the run again! All in all though, I have to say I do think keeping the hamstring supported helped and I got through the race with no further injury. (no blisters either!)
This was a nice social run. Chatted quite a bit with other runners over the miles. Said hello to three or four other folks who'd also run the Flying Monkey (and were wearing their race shirts). One woman, Sarah, and her bf are also entered in the Mountain Mist; so, I'll see them again there! Talked to another woman, who has been a dedicated runner for decades and was running her 172th marathon; WOW!!!!
Rain held off til later in the afternoon post race. It was coolish and there was a bit of a brisk wind, but not too terrible weather.
lol...so I crashed out to sleep about 9:30 pm; Hannah came to bed much later at about 3:30am--and was then channel surfing to find something to watch to fall asleep to. We both ended up awake and watching a documentary on Showtime...about three ultra-athletes on an expedition in 2006 to run 4800 miles across the Sahara desert! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0481222/
