77)McCulloch, Derek & Shepherd Hendrix. STAGGER LEE. Image Comics: 2006.
Historical fiction in graphic novel format.
*if you've been paying attention to my music posts, you'll recognize "Stagger Lee" as one of the songs on Nick Cave's Murder Ballad album.
From the trial of the real Stag Lee (in the early 1900's in St. Louis, MO) to the myth that he became, the story flows in and out of well researched history and engaging fictional side plots, and is underscored throughout by the many versions of the popular murder ballad. The story is rich with folklore and with a scholarly bent and the sepia tones artwork fits to a T.
