The rest of Friday afternoon was dinner and a shower at home. Henry Lee decided he wanted to nibble-beg the crab meat from the crab, cucumber and sesame-ginger "sushi salad" I was eating.

In the evening, I went over to World Conspiracy, registered for their Zombie Walk (Oct 26), picked up a ticket to a costume party at the Flying Monkey (Oct 18), and ended up buying a t-shirt (tattoo flash graphic of a pinup skeleton girl, banner reading "unlucky at love").

Then I scooted over to Lowe Mill and the Monkey. Stopped in at the record shop and said hello to [livejournal.com profile] theverticalbar; chatted with her a bit about the Haunted House Crash Boom Bang is doing. I think I'll go to one of their planning meetings next week and offer to help out; I don't think I really want to perform, but I could assist with costumes, makeup and props, or just take tickets or something. Then spent 4 hours "playing with dolls" and chatting art & culture with folks at Squeaking Tribe Puppets!!

I am sooooooo inspiration psyched. It has taken me over two years of just occassional events at and forays to the Flying Monkey Arts Center to begin to find an active niche in the community, but I think I am/could be now. Mostly it was just me and Anna Sue (who runs Squeaking Tribe) and a handful other monkeyite regulars wandering in and out.

I had brought along my sock monkey Spank, my Heartblood doll and my Day of the Dead mask as art samples. Anna Sue and I talked about using them as puppets, what I need to think about as different from static posed dolls- things like more flexible joints and weighted feet. But she was impressed, complimentary and encouraging. Everyone *loved* the heartblood doll (and she isn't even finished yet!) Someone suggested the name "Sanguina" for her. Did some puppet movement exercises. It was so very cool watching Anna Sue make my dolls come alive. She makes it look so easy. Talked about my halloween project, got some good information, and was told to bring her in if I need help. I love the space Anna Sue has, full of puppets and props and art--I wish my house looked like that!

After the Monkey Speak spoken word event got out, we had a larger cluster of folks hanging out and chatting. Damn, I wish I was better at remembering names! Cool people. Talked about 16th century literature! And Dolls/Puppets! And Frida Kahlo! One gentleman recited vivid and bawdy passeages from "The Life of Gargantua and of Pantagruel" by François Rabelais.

Gawds, I love feeling intellectual and creative. :)

Am at work today. Since its the weekend, I am wearing jeans and a tshirt. The shirt is the one [livejournal.com profile] tn_grrl gifted me with. Black with yellow and orange graphics, a pic of Sideshow Bennie "breathing fire" and lettering declaring "Set your mind on fire at the library!"
