Green Eggs and Ham for Breakfast
Mar. 2nd, 2009 07:09 amIntended to stay up and pull it together last night, but ended up crashing out (despite evening coffee). So, I am up this morning to finish the Dr. Seuss cake for the library party this afternoon (I don't go into work til noon, so there is still time to do the job right). I have the cakes all baked and ready to assemble, the fondant prepared, the buttercream ready to whip up; so this is the fun part of putting it all together!
A sheet cake serving as a base (and more servings); a carved and green fondant covered ham cake and sculpted fried eggs on a plate (another cake round) on top. Pics later...
gotta get to the kitchen.

Later edit:
Well, I guessed wrong about how long this cake would take me...I started working on it at 7 am and finished at 1 pm. However, I had called into work earlier, and since I was doing it for work, Jen said to take my time (on the clock)! I figure I worked about 8-10 hours total on this cake, with designing, shopping, baking, decorating.
I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, and then I was pretty pissed off (at myself)--because the cake slid and slipped in the car and some of the frosting details got messed up! Everybody kept saying it was okay and you couldn't tell the goof ups and fix ups--but I could!! (people took pics, maybe I'll post them) Even Phyliss, who doesn't like Dr. Seuss, said it was good. :) Note to self: Do not stack cakes before transporting. Note to self: pack cakes more securely for transporting. It's a learning process.
There was a BIG crowd for the library event, the cake got more kudos and got completely eaten up. I had a small piece myself,(just for quality control) and it was pretty tasty! I do think I've gotten the hang of a decent buttercream.
