Another swoonworthy cake from Highland Bakery in Atlanta, GA.

A tribute to Frida, this Dios De Muertes cake was filled with a yelow corn massa cake, and layered with cinnamon and cayanne spiked chocolate ganache.

And check out this presentation photo---http://www.flickr.com/photos/9438541@N04/880863337/

How could I not just LOVE IT TOO MUCH?!!!! (and notice how the flavors are part of the theme as well!)

*sigh* Should this be INSPIRATION to create or just "I'll NEVER be able to match that" defeat?

From http://crowdsourcetarot.makeincense.com/ :

Chef: A cheerful chef, his white toque adorned by mystical symbols, its top flopped into a lemniscate outline, stands at a counter with a measuring cup, a chef's knife, and a plate on it. He holds a whisk triumphantly skyward in one hand.
Upright: You have the power that comes from being skilled. Your cuisine reigns supreme.
Reversed: The esoteric and exoteric are inextricably combined.

I know it's not a literal illustration (of Crowdsource's Chef or the traditional Magician's card), but..

I have yards and yards and yards of trim to stitch onto various garments---a ribbon flower border on my Damsel vest, and pink & green piping (looks like a funky frosted border) for my baker's coat.

Tonight. I got the trim sewn on the vest, and also had just enough to edge a flounce on the skirt that goes along with the outfit.

I just realized, that the pairing of the skeleton corset with flowers and froufou makes the outfit a "vanitas." I like that. :)

Art History fyi: Vanitas are Dutch still life paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are a collection of lovely objects that hold symbolic meanings to such subjects as: the transience of life, the fleetingness of pleasure and beauty, and the certainty of death. Vanitas' element included memento mori such as timepieces, hourglasses, skulls and bones, insects, rotting fruit and flowers.

I also played around with the baker's jacket and sketched out some ideas of what I want to do to alter it.

And, no, I haven't forgotten about my retro summer dress either. :)

I felt good for getting some positive creative work done today.
