Friday today
Dec. 4th, 2009 08:29 pmToday has been kind of a mood swinging day. I started off feeling low, but then perked up.
I work this weekend, so had the day off. I woke up around 7:30, but was feeling "bad" (not physically, just a depressed mood) so I pulled the covers up over my head and didn't get up til 10:30. (Those three hours were not really sleeping, just bed vegging.)
Finally got motivated and out of the house about noonish. Bribed myself with a Mudpie protein bar (my current favorite flavor) and a Starbuck's latte, and then went up to do 11 miles of trails at Monte Sano.
That really made me feel good!!! I just took it slow and easy and enjoyed myself. No problems with my hamstring! Yay! I think it's on the mend. I do like my Montrail shoes; I'm decidedly happy with them as trail shoes. I explored a new trail section (which is part of the MM race course) today, the 2.6 mile Goat Trail; it basically runs parallel to the Mountain Mist trail but with more curves and little switchbacks. Weather was cool but nice (ha-no snow yet).
I then had some errands to run: fabric shopping at Hancocks for the rest of what I need for Coleen's Dicken's Bonnet (am making progress, but no it's not done yet); Dick's Sporting Goods for GU (for my next race) and a neoprene compression knee sleeve to try (to give my recovering hamstring some support); Target for baking supplies.
I'm baking an eggnog cheesecake (to be topped with white chocolate ganache and garnished with nuts and dried cranberries) to take to the RCFM holiday party tomorrow evening. I was feeling a little angsty and schizophrenic about sugar, so I decided not to do a frosted cake; cheesecake batter isn't quite the same trigger/temptation for me.
I stopped at Blue Rose Tattoo and talked to Greg. Hannah decided now wasn't the right time for her to get another tattoo, so she wanted me to cancel the appointment she'd made with Greg. However....:) I made myself an appointment; am going in next Wednesday to get a little flying monkey on my shoulder. Obviously a post-marathon memento. Greg and I also discussed what is going to be my "work in progress project"; having a standing appointment with the shop each month, and getting my 50th tattoo on my 50th birthday! I've decided this is another goal-50 I want to do for myself.
The planned monkey will be #42 (actually I've only got 40 distinct designs, but I'm counting each of the double sessions done on different days/with healing time inbetween that it took for my two largest finished tattoos; my waspwoman back piece and anatomy leg piece. However, since it remains unfinished, I'm only counting the bunnidoll tattoo once, even though there are two sessions of work into it.) That leaves me 8 designs to get inked to make 50, or one per month between January-August 2010. Most of the remaining designs will probably be tiny filler pieces on my sleeves like bugs or flowers; maybe add a new number/miles key on my leg after finishing the Delano Park run in March; I also want at least one literary text tattoo, something book or library related, and then something special (not yet planned) for the 50th birthday tattoo. Both Greg and Matt seemed kind of jazzed about the idea of this 50/50 project. And of course, I am too! :)
In the realm of making choices and sacrifices for one's art; this tattoo plan means I'm going to have to turn down the option and invite to go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras again. (So sorry, guys! *pout* Maybe I'll get a fleur de lis design on a string of beads that month.)
Cheesecake is out of the oven and smells heavenly. I hope I'm not jinxing myself by speaking too soon, but it looks like I finally managed to bake a cheesecake without any major fault-line cracking!
