Mardi Gras
Feb. 16th, 2010 07:54 amI'm wearing my brightly colored madras plaid skirt today with layered tops of purple, green and gold... and beads of course. :)
After work, there is a Fat Tuesday 5k fun run at Fleet Feet and then a free concert at Bandito Burrito South. Sigh. It ain't New Orleans by a long shot, but it'll have to do on a weeknight in Huntsville.
Had a day off work yesterday (Presidents' Day holiday). Slept in late and mostly just lazed around the house. I did get out to do my grocery shopping for the week, and at home I managed a thorough cleaning of my kitchen (and ugghh put out some bug bait, hopefully out of curious kitty reach). Watched District 9 on DVD; read some more Sookie Stackhouse.
I'm behind on my book reading tally. CLUB DEAD. RULES OF NORMAL EATING (reread). and FEMALE FETISHISM*. Believe these are books #9-11? Am currently into DEFINITELY DEAD and John Irving's new novel LAST NIGHT IN TWISTED RIVER.
*Gamman, Lorraine and Merja Makinen. FEMALE FETISHISM. NYU Press: 1995. Interesting book! ...(from book description) "Fetishism, one of the most intriguing and mysterious forms of sexual expression, is still cast as an almost exclusively male domain. The first book on the subject, Female Fetishism engagingly documents women's involvement in this form of sexuality and describes a wide array of female fetishisms, from the obsessional behavior of pop fans to fetishism in advertising to women's involvement in the world of dress clubs and fetish magazines. The authors provide provocative evidence of food fetishism among women, arguing that many eating disorders are best understood from this perspective."
Other accountability:
Vacation miles for last week were 14, 8, 6 (28 total) and some miscellaneous city walking.
So far this week, Sunday 16.7 miles. Rest day on Monday. Easy miles planned from here on til the race on Saturday. I think I've bounced back from my dissapointment at being a DNF in the Mountain Mist, and I'm really looking forward to giving this 50K thing another go. :)
Today's weight: 130 lbs. I am NOT going to fret about the 5-6 pound gain I've seen over the last few weeks. (I do seem to have plateaued/re-balanced again. Hannah says I look healthier now anyway) But I AM going to be more mindful of the (binging) behaviors and (exercise and emotional)lapses that caused/contributed to the increase.
I think I'm moving into a less vain mindset these days, or at least less concerned with what other people may think of my appearance. (Face it, I know I'm middleaged and plain) I'm going to wear my hair how it's comfortable; I'm going to dress in what pleases me. I really liked my twin sister's style, and since I came home with more of her hand me down clothes, that may show. ;)
*pout* I may have to readjust my 50-tattoos project, and plan to reach this goal not before my birthday but during my 50th year. I've gotten caught with some unexpected money issues recently and the next few months may realistically be too tight for more ink.
Need to head off for work now, hope the highway isn't icy slick. (For Alabama, we've had enough of Winter weather this Winter!)
