crafts ramble
Nov. 25th, 2012 09:11 amWell, I did finish up my sister's Victorian bonnet and got it mailed off only ONE day later than I said I would... ;) Actually, although it had it's flaws, I was quite pleased with it, and so was C. She's going to send photos after her first outing to the Dicken's Fair.
I'm going to once again re-purpose and reuse vintage fabric in my next project, the Yule costume. I have an old crazy quilt that is bright and lovely, but is torn and falling apart in places. So, I'm going to take the red velour/velvet look robe I thrifted and add in gores, and a fantail at the back, of the quilt fabric to make the robe/skirt flare like a Victorian dressing gown. Fur collar, cuffs and trim for shabby "Santa" look, or something like I imagine one of Dicken's "ghosts" wearing.
I got my wig, which is great, full and thick good quality! Need to work with it a bit though, so it reads as "wild hair" and not immediately and only as Kabuki lion. I'm going to randomly braid small metal jingle-bells in the hair, and maybe use some mistletoe or ivy bits.
If I get that much done, I'll wear it to some holiday parties as is this season, but eventually will be making the planned demon-krampus-perchta mask and adding the goat horns to it. However, I have decided I want to take the time to do a really good maskmaking job, and not just throw something together.
Am also hoping I have a decent sized square of sturdy quilt fabric left, and am thinking about using that as the center of the quilt I'm going to sew for Desmond. The design kind of radiating outward from old quilt to new, from one generation to another.
