current obsessions: Cherry
Mar. 24th, 2016 10:19 amI'm getting together with my friend (and former tattoo artist) Laura on Saturday to get measurements taken and to start on the pinup dress. Can use the Buttrick's pattern as is for the bodice, but I want the skirt fuller. I think the vintage Vogue pattern will work for that.. Of course, being short and plump, will have to adjust for waist size and length. And there is also the issue of the print being a one way pattern. Lol..there's just gotta be a way to make it all work!
Wondering if I need to forego the wide pink border on the skirt, either make it much narrower or just use as hem edge binding. Thinking the broad bands might not work well, looking chunky with my height. Still want the bodice top in the contrast print though.

After much looking online, I found a snood that I like and think will work with the wig. (as ordered, the ties will be black ribbon and not a contrast.) It'll be handmade from a vintage era pattern. Good ol' Etsy. So, have to wait til the wig and snood show up before I can figure out how to embellish them. (some sort of beaded cocktail garnish motif, fruit slices, olives, cherries, etc.)
I also think these earrings are pretty perfect.
I may make an embellished purse as well, but most likely not as sculptural as Audrey's!
I'm still going to have to shop around to find a petticoat (red or black or maybe layered red and black), and shoes either black or red. NO high heels, and no open toe (my running abused toenails are too funky), but maybe a low wedge heel? Hope I can find things thrift stores or cheap.
I suppose another question is whether I will wear tights or bare legs (to show off my tattoo art)?
I'm doing the planning and getting the dress done now, but may put aside the pull it all together and do accessory crafting in May. I've got another project for April. A friend of B and mine's was recently widowed. Her husband was known for wearing Hawaiian Aloha shirts, and she wants a quilt made from the shirts. It should be a fun project for me working with all those fabrics and patterns, and i know I can make a nice memorial piece for my firiend. (fyi: ite was she and her husband who introduced me to B) Am meeting with her next week to discuss what exactly she'd like. (I'm hoping to convince her that it would be appropriate to include traditional hawaiian applique quilting)
