e_phemerartPatron came in excitedly wanting information about a "local" historic home. The name didn't ring any bells with me, but what do I know...I'm the "new girl"* who doesn't actually live here in Decatur.
I checked our library catalog, and the Decatur and Alabama verticle file clippings...hmmm...strange it's not listed among the commonly toured and cited historic Decatur homes. Patron said she'd found some information on a website; googled that and began to read closely...granted the online article NEVER specified what STATE the Powers Mansion was in, while it did refer several times to family in Alabama, but library internet sleuthing eventually disclosed that this Haunted Mansion is in Decatur Illinois NOT Decatur Alabama.
*yesterday, one of the library board members telephoned the Information Department but then didn't want to talk to me because I am just the "new girl"; I've worked here almost a year and half now....
