Yesterday's major accomplishment was cake.

A decadent rather elaborate confection: three layer checkerboard of alternating chocolate & butter yellow cake. Pineapple filling between the layers. Thin coat of chocolate buttercream frosting covered in a glossy chocolate ganache. The cake top is decorated with buttercream piped borders, and garnished with a dollop more of the pineapple filling and arranged dried pineapple bits.

It's not a perfect cake, but it's pretty enough (and hopefully will taste good). It was my first time baking a checkerboard cake (a separator frame is used to assist pouring concentric rings of the different batters in the pans before baking; stack the layers; when cut & served, the pattern is visible), and my first time attempting to prepare and pour ganache. Used a combination of Dove milk chocolate and semisweet. LOL..I had chocolate EVERYWHERE! My kitchen is too damn small! I need to get a better mixer, my little cheap one tends to leave too many air bubbles in the cake batter and bogs down in buttercream.
