fashion grrrrrrr
Sep. 6th, 2009 11:37 amSo.... I STILL haven't gotten around to sewing my retro dress. I keep laying out the fabric, looking at it, and getting frustrated before I actually start cutting. (it's all over my living room floor again today)
The problem is that the novelty print I have to use, while not being striped does have a definite up and down, one way, repeat motif pattern. And I don't have enough yardage to get a whole circle skirt cut, even in seamed panels, with the pattern running the right way.
What I'm considering is doing the front 2/3 of the skirt (and the lower bodice) in the cotton print and have a solid color taffeta or satin for the back skirt and upper bodice/shelf bust front for accent. Maybe in Elsa Schiaparelli shocking pink?* Maybe with a large fancy bow at the center waist back as well? Sort of a formal dress meets domestic apron look?
Again, I'm thinking too hard here--I bought the original novelty fabric YEARS ago just because it was FUN...but I can't cut loose enough to actually just have fun with it? I'd be much happier just whipping it up, even if it isn't going to be perfect.
LOL....I should look on it as a Project Runway fangirl challenge....
