forward and back
May. 16th, 2011 12:20 pmThe Twisted Ankle Trail Marathon was held on Saturday; I ran it last year, but was out this time with...a twisted ankle!
It's been a long inactive month since I tweaked the ankle while out on a trail run. I have been doing some gym exercises and had began walking short distances on it again during the last week or so. Thinking/hoping I was at least on the mend, I attempted walking nearly 10 miles at one of the local greenways yesterday.
But it wasn't particularly fun and I don't feel good about it. I wore my ankle brace, and never picked up the pace past a fairly easy walk. Still, I could "feel" the bad ankle throughout, and after a few miles I could tell it was also effecting my overall gait and straining the alternate leg as well.
The time on feet and distance left me worn out. My ankle ached like crazy afterwards and all last night. :(
I've already missed one ultra I was signed up for. And may well have to scrap the upcoming Black Mountain Monster (in three weeks--could I see a miracle recovery and be able to do 12 hours?) as well. I keep seeing all these great Spring race anouncements and race reports from all my running buddies and am getting so envious and all worked up about not working out.
Am feeling depressed and discouraged
On the other hand... My ankle is BETTER than it was a month ago. The bruising is all gone. Only a little bit of swelling still right at the joint. I can walk on it. I am able to work out some at the gym.
I DID walk 10 miles on Sunday.
And while on my greenway walk, I was treated to seeing a vivid red carninal, two bluebirds and lots of purple thistles blooming.
And my margarita cheesecake recipe turned out especially well; very yummy. :)
