Family Fun
Apr. 20th, 2014 03:17 pmMaybe not your "normal" family outing, but I had a good time yesterday in Nashville at the Full Moon Tattoo & Horror Festival with my husband, daughter and son in law.
It was fun watching Ken geek-out about Horror fandom at his first con.
Hannah was happy to get an autograph from James Duval, an actor in her favorite teenage angst and rebellion movie: NOWHERE.
B and I laughed about how we, a big bald guy and a purple haired tattooed lady, DIDN'T stand out in the crowd.
And, even though I'd gone SWEARING I wouldn't get any ink, I left with Tattoo #60. :)
Life is for enjoying the good stuff.
My new tattoo was done by Brandy Patterson of "Now or Never Gallery" , Kingsport TN. Very nice young lady. lol..she says she doesn't enjoy getting tattooed herself as much as doing them for others. However, she does have quite a few, including a nice Dr. Seuss ABC and one of Maurice Sendak's Wiildthings on her arm. Good deal, I picked a bookworm artist!
I had kind of shopped around before finally getting tattooed. Showed my design (yes, I had my own design sketch with me) to a couple other artists, one guy who did very clean old school work but wanted 150$, another quoted me 100$, and Brandy charged me 75$. Also chose Brandy for other reasons than good price. One, because she's a woman; I like supporting other women artists, and I also feel a bit more comfortable getting inked by a stranger who's a girl rather than a guy. lol..what can I say, some tattoo artists do look more than a little rough! Booth vibe felt good too. Also, she may not have been the best artist at the festival, but her work was good and I liked her color sense; also, her portfolio showed more delicate feminine designs than most. I know, it was also a horror con, so that may account for a big theme, but not what I was after with this piece.
'll post a pic as soon as I can get someone else to take one (due to the location, I can't do it myself.) It's just a small piece, a festival experience, fun and pretty.
Ok, so what did I get? A small design of a luna moth, one half on my left hand at the base of my thumb and half on the right. Just above the wrist and almost to the knuckle. When I put my hands side by side, you see the whole design.
I know, Luna moths are BIG moths, but I love their design and pale color; of all butterflies and moths-they are my favorite. . Another winged thing added to my collection; a symbol of transformation, light in the darkness, and the moon's intuition.
