my life goes on
Apr. 18th, 2014 12:42 pmOk, my spring-summer "racing" schedule is set:
May 17/ Long Cane trail 50K, Abbeville SC --FINALLY going to one of RD Terri Hayes' events! And just before she retires from race directing; she's said this will be her last Long Cane 50. It's a trail run. I actually feel kind of excited to do a trail event again; its been quite awhile. As long as I keep my wits about me, I'll be fine. There are six aid stations along the trail that B can meet up with me at. And there's NO cutoff time. So no pressure as long as I keep moving and cover the distance. It'll be a bit of a road trip to get there. But then on the good side,Terri doesn't charge a race fee. Terri was my 'battle buddy" throughout the 50 mile Georgia Jewel, which was one of the toughest events I've done; we kind of bonded there.
June7/ Run Under The Stars, 10 hour, Paducah KY An overnight run on a 1/2 mile track. I haven't previously done a race in Kentucky. The RD is Steve Durbin, husband of my friend Terri. Timed event, so again no stressing over a DNF; I just do what I can and enjoy seeing friends.
Jul 4 -5 /(keeping the idea of Merrill's Mile open, but not going to pre-reg as the new grandbaby might decide to arrive about then!)
August 31/ Tupelo Marathon, Tupelo MS There is a 6 hour cut off time for this. I've already registered, so it's my carrot on a stick motivation to train well the next four months, so that I can possibly finish under that. Otherwise, it'll be a DNF marathon but still a good long run with a cool race shirt.
Having some nice events to look forward to, I feel better about deciding to drop from VolState. Just not enough leave time for 10 days of traipsing across TN, when I need to go visit my father and spend some quality time with Hannah when the new grandbaby arrives this summer.
