Its Monday all over the place
Dec. 29th, 2014 02:46 pmI'll take a selfie or have B snap a photo later tonight, but I've got a new hairdo. Basically, it's an overall short bristle boy cut--as I went and got all the purple length (such as it was) sheared off this morning.
I don't mind the buzz cut, but I am mourning the end of being a brightly hued library worker. (The middle aged gay hair stylist at the salon was very sympathetic)
Also went and bought 100$ worth of nondescript clothing at Walmart. (I originally said "ugly" clothes, they aren't truly hideous- just drab). Black and kakhi pants, long sleeved tops, new cardigan cover ups.
Having recently been called to heel for my wild ways, I am now having to wear more conservative "career drag" to work.
Several co-workers remarked on the new hair cut, and then were surprised when I told them that it was at administrative directive. (fyi: I've worked at the library for 6 years now; have been dressing relatively in the same style for the entire time and dying my hair for over three years time.
Here is the ONLY bit the Personnel Policy has to say about Dress:
Dress
"Good taste is expected in the choice of clothing to be worn by staff members while on duty. Functional, comfortable dress, appropriate to the dignity of the job is expected. It is not acceptable to wear halter tops, revealing sundresses, ragged, torn, or dirty clothing, or clothing that reveals the belly or any type of cleavage. No T-shirts are allowed with the exception of those with library related logos or seasonal themes."

With the exception of a couple skirts I needed to mend, I don't see how what I was choosing to wear was out of line from this. Nor much different from what others wear, just brighter and a dash more boho. (And more skirts--for a mostly female work team, there aren't many of us who wear dresses or skirts. Me, sometimes Kiesha or Allison) Sigh, could be worse; it's still more business casual than business professional. At least cardigans are better than suit jackets.
Doesn't help either that I'm not feeling very happy my body image/ self-esteem these days anyway. Am feeling frumpy enough without having anyone els tell me I have to dress the part.
Am also in the midst of moving my desk at work. Well, actually, moving the stuff from my desk, which will be removed, to the one behind it, which Steph/Rhionda just vacated for their permenant quarters in the back work area. Today, I'm kind of beween spaces, cleaning out drawers and wharnot, as Barney won't get my computer stuff taken care of til tomorrow.
