It's October. Halloween is coming. The tempatures have cooled. All should be well with my world, since I love all these things.
So, why did I have a "bad" day yesterday? Out and out binged for the first time in months. Slept away the day. Didn't accomplish anything other than getting some of a novel read. This is getting to be a weekend habit of oversleeping (as procrastination and avoidance), and I don't like it. Nothing wrong with having a lazy Sunday, but avoiding life is not good, and I can't delude myself about which this is. Oh well, that day is over--and it's not what you do one day, but what you do most days that matters in the larger picture of things.
This was after having had a nice day visit up to see the kids on Saturday. We went to Desmond's soccer game and out for pizza lunch. Watched Big Hero Six with Desmond (research for his costume) as movie and popcorn. Took Iggy out for a walk. Babysat just a while while Ken and Hannah went out with Millie to look at bunkbeds for the boys. Home cooked dinner, baked speghetti, liver and onions, and apple cake. The apple cake turned out yummy, but it wasn't the same as Meme's recipe; wonder what I was missing (besides nutmeg)? Got some planning done for the boys' Halloween costumes, which I'll have to make during the next couple weeks now. Caught up with my daughter, Like I said, all in all a nice family visit.
B's gone to Tennessee with me or the last two visits. On the one hand, it's nice that he's okay with playing grandpa. On the other, I kind of miss my weekends away; just me alone hanging with the kids.
B's and my wedding anniversary is coming up in a few days; have made it to four years! That is longer than any of my other marriages lasted. We're celebrating with a road trip to Atlanta next weekend, to see the Chihuly installations at the botanical gardens there (before the exhibit leaves the end of the month). That is kind of a long drive there and back for a day triip with a couple of hours of art viewing, but Chihulyis glasswork are some of my favorite art.
Re: Halloween Costumes. Think I'm getting by easy this year, am kind of cobbling things together rather than doing them all from scratch. Desmond, age 5, is old enough to express his own opinions, and so has decided to be Baymax (in this fighting suit) from the kids' movie Big Hero Six. I found a sweatshirt already printed with the baymax suit, but I'm going to make a shoulderpadded vest, to mimic better the broad shouldered shape of the robot in the movie, maybe with a helmet for him to wear.over it. Ken decided redhaired Lennon will be dressed as Chucky from the Child's Play horror movies. I have the basic striped shirt and overalls; Hannah decided she wants to keep the overalls clean for Lennon to wear otherwise (so that gets me out of doing the print on them from the movie; will make a patch for the bib with big red buttons and saying "Good Guys" to reference fim). Also going to draw the scars on his face like Chucky gets in the second movie.
As for my halloween, unless I get a real hard hit of inspiration, I'm just recycling old costumes this year and being the Bride of Frankenstein again. (had to buy a new wig; old cheap one got ratted out) Am dressing up with this costume for the DD Dolls pinup calendar (group shot for October of dolls in monster costumes, session is next Sunday), and will wear it out to the "Monster Mash" event the weekend before Halloween..Note to self: need fake eyelashes and white lace gloves.. Oh, and will wear my predestrienne outfit to the 5k run. Not sure what I'm going to wear to work on actual Halloween day
