Am I crazy or what? To give myself a goal, something to keep me motivated & on track exercising through the winter, I just registered for a 12 HOUR race:
The race with be Saturday March 14 , 2009. The number of entries will be limited to 75 total including relay teams. The race consists of multiple laps of a 1.00 mile path in Decatur, Alabama’s Delano Park. Aid will be available on each lap. The tree-lined course is flat with total elevation change of less than 10 feet per lap and is completely unpaved. The average high temperature is 60F and average low is 40F. In the 2008 race, there were 35 individuals participating in the 12 hour event (there are also relay team, 50 k and 50 mile catagories), covering betwen 12 miles and a course record of 78 miles!

This is the park in Decatur, down the street from the library, where I do my lunch hour exercising.
The next (approximately) three months will have me training for the ultimate goal being to see how much distance I can cover in 12 hours. Need to do some research on training for this type of endurance event, but probably it will basically be doing as usual with the exception of gradually extending time on my long mileage day each week (just as far as I can). I know I can walk at least 4-5 hours right now without "dying"; maybe if I can progress up to about 8, I can tackle keeping moving for the 12...) Longest distance I've ever done is a standard marathon 26.2 miles; so, I would hope to be able (even just walking) to make 30 miles in the time limit. Of course, I'm just thinking out loud right now.
LOL..yeah, this is going to be fun.
Anyone know a good masseuse I can hire for after-care?
