From the Library Volunteers Reception

Nor perfect, I should have blocked it out a bit more square, and could have done some more fancy work with the cover design (note to self: BEFORE applying the fondant to the cake), but not bad for a first attempt at this sort of book bindery project!
Also, I wish I had gotten pictures of the "St. Agatha's" Cake I recently made; the cherries looked so perky pink showing through under the white fondant!

Date: 2010-05-06 05:48 am (UTC)we think my advisor would like some--maybe a chocolate & cherry version instead, but I am really clueless on how to shape or cover them. any suggestions?
not the best how-to, but some tips
Date: 2010-05-06 03:22 pm (UTC)I ended up doing small filled cake breasts.
I went to HobbyLobby and bought a set of the Wilton's Mini Wonder Mold pans http://cybercakes.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/media/Pans/miniwondermold.jpg. One cake mix makes about 6-8 cakes.
However, if you wanna have more fun shopping, most "adult" shops also have sets of breast cup cake pans available!
Bake cake forms. Allow to cool. Level tops (well actually, it's the bottom).
I filled them by slicing off a 1 inch layer from the base, hollowing out the cake somewhat, adding the filling and putting the bottom section back on, using a litle bit of frosting between the layers as "glue".
Frosted overall with a layer of white buttercream.
Rolled out fondant fairly thin.
Put candied cherry in nipple position and cover cake with fondant; drape it over and then lightly work with to form and smooth.
