See, sloths really can be green!

Sloth face references

I really like how this fellow looks! (I couldn't find any doll eyes yesterday, but maybe I could use black dome buttons for eyes?)

Three references from sloth doll faces.

The drawn/painted one on the right might be a good "template" design to start with. I also like the one on the left, but it looks to be a polymer clay sculpt with felting, and the lower one is also a clay sculpt, Would like to combine these looks in my soft sculpted face.

I got some more sewing done last night (Although I still have the hind legs left to sew before assembling the sloth), But I think I may go back and unstuff and resew the claws into the arms; I'm just not quite happy with them as is. They look lumpy, more like fingers than hard claws- need to be stuffed more firmly.

Also, didn't have the best of luck shopping at Joann's last night (but I still ended up spending enough money, using the remainder of my holiday bonus)--I REALLY hate that this is the only fabric store left in town (excepting small fabric departments in Hobby Lobby and Walmart). I wonder if the speciality fabric shop up in Nashville's Berry Hill area is still in business?  I haven't been by there in a couple years, but they used to have cool (if pricey) fabrics and trims. Besides being the only game in town, I really think JoAnn's quality of fabrics has gone down from what it once was. And they don't really carry any doll supplies to speak of.

Still, I did find one neutral beige tone of seude cloth to use for my sloth's face and picked up 5 yards of tea-dyed cotton that is a good basic Caucasian flesh tone for future doll bodies. Also impulse bought 1 yard of black paisley imprinted seude cloth and a yard of fur trim;  that will go in my stash box until I percolate a firm idea on how to use it--thinking it may be the outfit for some sort of winter (Solstice=dark of night) doll, maybe a victorian mourning dress theme as the fabric might make a interesting coat trimmed with the fur. Hmmm. I also have a black lace dress (that I bought a while back just because the fabric was so pretty, not because it would come close to fitting me) I could cut that up and make a skirt for the doll. Although am also toying with making the doll body itself  (excepting face and hands) out of the patterned fabric, because its so distinctive, amd just using the trim as though it is fur cuffs and collars on the body suit.

I should also go through my craft boxes and find all my doll making patterns and such, to put them where I can get to them.

And one cool drawing/coloring page of a sloth, found online, just because I like it.
